Description

Recreate the excitement of a volcanic eruption at home with this fun and educational experiment using simple ingredients.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • Red or orange food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap
  • A small bottle or container
  • A tray or large dish
  • Optional: Glitter

Instructions

  1. Place the small bottle or container in the center of the tray.
  2. Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to the bottle.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap to create thick lava.
  4. Pour a few drops of food coloring into the baking soda mixture.
  5. Measure out 1/2 cup of vinegar in a separate cup.
  6. Pour the vinegar into the bottle and watch the eruption!
  7. Observe the reaction as it bubbles and spills over.

Notes

Experiment with different food colorings and ingredient volumes for varying eruption effects. Always supervise younger children during the experiment.
