Recreate the excitement of a volcanic eruption at home with this fun and educational experiment using simple ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- Red or orange food coloring
- 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap
- A small bottle or container
- A tray or large dish
- Optional: Glitter
Instructions
- Place the small bottle or container in the center of the tray.
- Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to the bottle.
- Add 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap to create thick lava.
- Pour a few drops of food coloring into the baking soda mixture.
- Measure out 1/2 cup of vinegar in a separate cup.
- Pour the vinegar into the bottle and watch the eruption!
- Observe the reaction as it bubbles and spills over.
Notes
Experiment with different food colorings and ingredient volumes for varying eruption effects. Always supervise younger children during the experiment.
