Ingredients

  • Cardstock or heavy watercolor paper
  • White school glue
  • Salt (table salt)
  • Liquid watercolors or food coloring
  • Small cups for mixing
  • Paintbrushes
  • A tray or a large sheet of paper
  • A small container for mixing colors (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by laying out your workspace.
  2. Use a pencil to lightly sketch your design on the cardstock.
  3. Squeeze glue generously over your pencil lines.
  4. While the glue is still wet, gently pour salt over the glued areas.
  5. Carefully shake off excess salt onto the tray or paper below.
  6. In your mixing cups, add a few drops of liquid watercolor or food coloring into water.
  7. With your paintbrush, delicately paint over the salt-covered areas.
  8. Allow your artwork to dry completely.
  9. Once dry, carefully brush off any excess salt that remains.
  10. Finally, step back and admire your creation!
