Description
This little crochet skeleton keychain is a playful project perfect for quiet time, using basic crochet techniques and few supplies.
Ingredients
- 90 yards of black cotton worsted weight yarn (weight 4 medium)
- a small amount of white cotton yarn for the face
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- yarn needle
- small scissors
- one stitch marker (optional)
- tape measure
- polyester fiberfill (a small handful for stuffing)
- two small black safety eyes (optional)
- one 1-inch wooden ring or metal key ring
- white cotton yarn for embroidered teeth and small nose
Instructions
- Make a magic ring and crochet 6 single crochet (sc) into the ring.
- Work 2 sc in each stitch around (12 stitches).
- Repeat sc in the next stitch, then inc in the following stitch around (18 stitches).
- Work two plain rounds of sc with 18 stitches in each round.
- For the head, work sc in the next stitch, then make a decrease (dec) over the next two stitches (12 stitches).
- Work one round of sc in each stitch around (12 stitches) and add a small pinch of fiberfill.
- Repeat sc in the next two stitches, then dec over the next two stitches around (9 stitches).
- Work one more round of sc in each stitch around (9 stitches) and add a little more stuffing.
- For the torso, repeat sc in the next stitch, then inc in the next stitch around (12 stitches).
- Work two rounds of sc in each stitch around (12 stitches).
- For the waist, repeat sc in the next two stitches, then dec over the next two stitches around (9 stitches).
- Work one round of sc around (9 stitches) and add more fiberfill.
- For the pelvis, repeat sc in the next stitch, then inc in the next stitch around (12 stitches).
- Work one round of sc around (12 stitches).
- Close the lower body with dec over the next two stitches around (6 stitches). Cut the yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail, and pull the tail through the final loop. Weave around the remaining stitches and pull the opening closed.
- Make two arms by chaining 7 and working 6 sc back along the chain. Make two legs the same way using chain 9 and working 8 sc back along the chain.
- Sew the arms to the upper body and the legs to the lower body.
- Attach the wooden ring at the top by sewing a short yarn loop through the head and around the ring.
- Embroider the face with white cotton yarn or insert safety eyes before closing the head.
- Weave in every remaining end and trim the tail close to the fabric.
Notes
Cotton handles gentle washing well; hand wash in cool or lukewarm water. When drying, reshape while damp and never hang it wet.
