Description

Colorful and fun sugar cookies perfect for any celebration.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Rainbow sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Add the egg and vanilla extract; mix until fully combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until well combined.
  4. Divide the dough into equal portions (about 5). Add food coloring to each portion and knead until evenly distributed.
  5. Roll small pieces of each colored dough into balls, layer them in a circle, and press gently. Roll the layered dough into a log shape, then slice cookies about ½ inch thick.
  6. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For firmer cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before slicing. Custom flavors can be added, and different types of sprinkles can enhance the look.
