Description

A cozy and comforting dish that brings families together, featuring tender chicken, fluffy dumplings, and fresh herbs.


Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 3–4 lbs), cut into pieces
  • 8 cups of chicken broth
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, add the chicken pieces and pour in the chicken broth. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Cook until the chicken is tender and fully cooked, about 30-35 minutes.
  2. Remove the chicken and let it cool for a few minutes before shredding the meat. In the same pot, add the onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until softened, around 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Create a well in the center. Pour in the milk and melted butter. Stir until combined.
  4. Return the shredded chicken to the pot and season with salt and pepper to taste. Carefully drop spoonfuls of the dumpling mixture into the simmering broth.
  5. Cover the pot and let the dumplings cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are fluffy and cooked through.
  6. Spoon the chicken and dumplings into bowls and garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes

For a quicker option, swap with rotisserie chicken. You can also make it gluten-free by substituting with gluten-free flour.
