Description
Make a calm crochet pumpkin gift bag with simple US stitches, sturdy worsted yarn, and a gentle pattern for Halloween treats or gifts.
Ingredients
- 120 yards of worsted weight (weight 4, medium) cotton or acrylic yarn in pumpkin orange
- 20 yards of worsted weight (weight 4, medium) yarn in green or brown for the stem and drawstring
- One H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Sharp scissors

Instructions
- With orange yarn, make a magic ring. Chain 1, then work 6 single crochet into the ring. Pull the ring closed and slip stitch into the first single crochet. (Round 1 has 6 stitches.)
- Chain 1, then work 2 single crochet in each stitch around (Round 2 has 12 stitches).
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat that pattern around (Round 3 has 18 stitches).
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then make an increase in the next stitch. Repeat this sequence around (Round 4 has 24 stitches).
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then make an increase in the next stitch. Repeat around (Round 5 has 30 stitches).
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches, then make an increase in the next stitch. Repeat around (Round 6 has 36 stitches).
- For Round 7, chain 1 and work 1 single crochet in the back loop only, or BLO, of every stitch around (Round 7 has 36 stitches).
- For Rounds 8 through 16, chain 1 and work 1 single crochet in every stitch around. Each round has 36 stitches.
- After Round 12, check the height of the sides to ensure they're about 5 inches tall.
- For the drawstring opening, chain 1 and work 1 single crochet in every stitch around, but do not slip stitch at the end. Place a marker in the first stitch and continue working in a spiral.
- Work one more round of 36 single crochet, then fasten off with a long tail.
- For the drawstring, chain 70 with green or brown yarn, then slip stitch in the second chain from the hook and across. Fasten off, leaving a tail at both ends.
- Thread the drawstring through the top edge. Tie the two ends in small knots.
- Add the stem by wrapping green or brown yarn around the top center and sewing through the fabric.
