Description
Create a useful small crochet cloth with a pleasant texture, perfect for everyday use in the kitchen or bathroom.
Ingredients
- Worsted weight (weight 4, medium) cotton yarn, about 190 yards total, or two 100 g skeins with about 170 yards per skein
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in the ends
- Sharp scissors
- Two stitch markers, optional
- Tape measure for checking gauge and the finished size
- A flat towel or blocking mat, optional
Instructions
- Form a slip knot, then chain 31 for the foundation chain.
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the second chain from the hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over once more and pull through all three loops to make one half double crochet, or hdc. Work 1 hdc in each chain across for 30 stitches.
- Chain 1 for the turning chain, then turn your work. Work 1 hdc in the first stitch and continue with 1 hdc in every stitch across, keeping 30 stitches in the row.
- Repeat Row 2 until you have 24 rows total.
- After Row 24, chain 1 and turn. Work 1 hdc in each stitch across for Row 25.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail, and pull the tail through the last loop.
- Weave in the ends using a yarn needle.
- Optional: Block the cloth by washing it in warm water, pressing it gently in a towel, and laying it flat to dry.
Notes
A stitch marker can help with the first and last stitches. The cotton can handle heat and frequent washing, making it suitable for kitchen use.
