Description

Experience the warmth and nostalgia of creating homemade saltwater taffy rolls with this easy-to-follow recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon of flavoring (vanilla, peppermint, or your favorite)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Butter or cooking spray (for greasing)
  • A large saucepan
  • A candy thermometer
  • A marble or countertop for cooling

Instructions

  1. Grease your marble or countertop with a little butter or cooking spray.
  2. Combine the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt in a large saucepan.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and allow it to boil without stirring.
  4. Watch the temperature rise with a candy thermometer and remove from heat at 260°F (hard ball stage).
  5. Carefully pour the hot mixture onto your greased countertop.
  6. Allow the candy to cool for a few minutes until it is comfortable to touch.
  7. Coat your hands with butter, then begin to knead the taffy, pulling and folding.
  8. Add flavoring and food coloring as desired, continuing to knead.
  9. Pull the taffy into ropes and cut into small pieces.
  10. Wrap each piece in wax paper or parchment for storage.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, wrap tightly in wax paper and refrigerate.
