A beautiful, homemade rock candy that combines patience and creativity, making a delightful sweet treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Food coloring (optional)
- Wooden sticks or skewers
- Clean glass jar with a wide mouth
- A saucepan
- A whisk
- A small bowl or dish (for cooling the syrup)
Instructions
- Begin by measuring 2 cups of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water into your saucepan, creating a basic syrup.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently with a whisk until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then let it simmer for a few minutes while stirring occasionally.
- Once the syrup is clear and well mixed, remove it from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
- If you wish, add a few drops of food coloring to the syrup and swirl gently.
- Dip your wooden sticks or skewers into the syrup, ensuring they are well coated.
- Carefully pour the remaining syrup into the jar, submerging the coated ends of the sticks.
- Cover the jar with a paper towel or fabric to allow air flow while keeping dust out.
- Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed area and wait for a week or two for crystals to form.
- Once the crystals reach your desired size, remove the sticks and allow them to dry for a few hours.
