Ingredients

  • Wooden sticks or skewers
  • Clean glass jar with a wide mouth
  • A saucepan
  • A whisk
  • A small bowl or dish (for cooling the syrup)

Instructions

  1. Begin by measuring 2 cups of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water into your saucepan, creating a basic syrup.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently with a whisk until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then let it simmer for a few minutes while stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the syrup is clear and well mixed, remove it from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  5. If you wish, add a few drops of food coloring to the syrup and swirl gently.
  6. Dip your wooden sticks or skewers into the syrup, ensuring they are well coated.
  7. Carefully pour the remaining syrup into the jar, submerging the coated ends of the sticks.
  8. Cover the jar with a paper towel or fabric to allow air flow while keeping dust out.
  9. Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed area and wait for a week or two for crystals to form.
  10. Once the crystals reach your desired size, remove the sticks and allow them to dry for a few hours.
