Description

Create a cute amigurumi ghost perfect for Halloween decorations with this beginner-friendly crochet pattern. The ghost stands approximately 5 inches tall and can be personalized with optional safety eyes or an embroidered face.

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), about 120 yards total from one 170-yard skein, preferably white, cream, or pale gray
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill, about 2 ounces (57 g)
  • Yarn needle with a rounded tip
  • Small scissors
  • One stitch marker (optional)
  • Tape measure
  • Optional 10 mm safety eyes or small amount of black yarn for embroidered eyes

Instructions

  1. Begin with a magic ring using white yarn.
  2. Chain 1 to bring the yarn up to working height. Work 6 single crochet (sc) into the ring. Pull the ring closed and join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet. (Round 1: 6 sc)
  3. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of the next round. Work 2 single crochet in every stitch around and join with a slip stitch. (Round 2: 12 sc)
  4. Work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around and join with a slip stitch. (Round 3: 18 sc)
  5. Continue the shaping with 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. (Round 4: 24 sc)
  6. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. (Round 5: 30 sc)
  7. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. (Round 6: 36 sc)
  8. Work 1 single crochet in every stitch around for six rounds. (Rounds 7 through 12: 36 sc each)
  9. Begin decreasing by single crocheting two together over the first two stitches, then work 1 single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. (Round 13: 30 sc)
  10. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then single crochet two together. (Round 14: 24 sc)
  11. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then single crochet two together. (Round 15: 18 sc)
  12. Work 1 single crochet in the next stitch, then single crochet two together. (Round 16: 12 sc)
  13. Single crochet two together around the entire round. Cut the yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail. Thread the tail onto a yarn needle, weave it through the front loops of the remaining stitches, pull the opening closed, and weave in the ends. (Round 17: 6 sc)
  14. For the face, position 10 mm safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10 or embroider with black yarn for eyes.

Notes

This ghost is a decoration, not a toy for unsupervised children. You can vary the expressions for different ghosts. If using a different yarn, adjust the hook size as necessary.
