Description

This Halloween Dog Bandana is a soothing crochet project that is beginner friendly and perfect for small to medium dogs. It creates a festive accessory that can be used seasonally without taking up much storage space.

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), about 60 yards total, in one main color or two small color sections.
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Sharp scissors
  • Tape measure
  • One optional stitch marker
  • A properly fitted dog collar for trying on the finished bandana

Instructions

  1. Chain 30 stitches to make the foundation chain.
  2. Make one double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook and in each chain across to get 28 dc at the end of Row 1.
  3. Turn the work and chain 3, then work one dc in each stitch across for Row 2 (28 dc).
  4. For Row 3, chain 3 and turn, then work one dc in the next stitch, decrease across the next two stitches, and continue with one dc in each remaining stitch (26 dc).
  5. Repeat the decrease pattern for Rows 4 to 14, decreasing by two stitches each row until you reach 4 dc at the end of Row 14.
  6. For Row 15, chain 3, turn, and make one dc decrease across the first two stitches, then another dc decrease across the last two stitches (2 dc).
  7. For Row 16, chain 3 and turn, then make one dc decrease across the final two stitches. Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch yarn tail.
  8. For the first tie, join yarn at the upper left corner, chain 35 stitches, then slip stitch back along the chain and fasten off. Repeat on the upper right corner for the second tie.
  9. Weave in all ends on the wrong side using a yarn needle.
  10. Lay the bandana flat and check the finished size to ensure it measures about 8 inches wide by 7 inches long.

Notes

A stitch marker can help you mark the first real stitch while your hands learn the shape. The bandana should be tied securely around the dog collar, leaving enough room for comfort.
