Description
A soothing crochet project that results in charming little ghost decorations, perfect for fall or Halloween.
Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), preferably acrylic, about 35 yards (21 g) for one ghost
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for sewing seams and weaving in the ends
- Small scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure
- Polyester fiberfill, about 1 ounce (28 g) or less
- Black embroidery floss or a small amount of black yarn for the eyes and mouth
- Embroidery needle with an eye large enough for your chosen face thread
Instructions
- Make a foundation chain by chaining 16.
- Row 1: Chain 2 to act as the turning chain. Work 1 double crochet into the third chain from the hook and into each chain across.
- Rows 2 through 8: Chain 2 and turn. Work 1 double crochet into each stitch across.
- At the end of Row 8, fasten off and leave a yarn tail about 18 inches (46 cm) long.
- Fold the rectangle in half so the first and last rows meet.
- Thread the long yarn tail onto the yarn needle and sew the side edges together with small, even stitches.
- When you reach the top, weave the needle around the edge stitches and gently pull to gather the top closed.
- Turn the pouch right side out. Add small pinches of polyester fiberfill, working from the corners upward.
- Thread a fresh yarn tail through the lower edge stitches, moving in and out around the opening.
- For the face, thread black embroidery floss or fine black yarn onto the embroidery needle. Make two small eyes and a short curved mouth.
Notes
Keep the embroidery secure, especially if you give one to a young child. Small parts, loose stitches, and long yarn tails are unsafe for children under three.
