Description

A tranquil DIY project to create charming glowing bottle lanterns using repurposed glass and vibrant acrylic paints.

Ingredients

  • Empty, clean glass bottles (any size)
  • Acrylic paints (colors that inspire you)
  • Soft paintbrushes (various sizes)
  • Battery-operated LED tealight candles
  • Twine, lace, or ribbon (for texture)
  • Optional embellishments (pressed leaves, paper cutouts, glitter)
  • Water (for cleaning brushes)
  • Small container (for mixing colors)

Instructions

  1. Begin by thoroughly cleaning your glass bottle to remove any labels or residues. Allow it to dry completely.
  2. Once your bottle is dry, select your acrylic paint colors and pour them onto a palette.
  3. Using a soft paintbrush, start applying the paint to the outer surface of your bottle.
  4. If you’d like to use additional elements, now is the moment to add those.
  5. Set your bottles aside to dry completely.
  6. After your paint is dry, take a piece of twine, ribbon, or lace, and wrap it around the neck of the bottle.
  7. Finally, place a battery-operated LED tealight inside the bottle and turn on the light.
  8. Set your glowing lantern on a shelf, table, or windowsill.

Notes

These lanterns can be seasonal and allow for personal touches like notes inside. Store in a dry place when not in use.
