Description
Create a comforting and adorable amigurumi German Shepherd dog using simple crochet techniques and yarn.
Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), acrylic, about 220 total yards (201 m) using two 100 g skeins
- US H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill, about 3 ounces (85 g)
- Yarn needle with a large eye
- Sharp scissors
- Three stitch markers (optional)
- Tape measure
- Two 12 mm safety eyes (or black embroidery thread)
- Small amounts of black yarn for the nose and dark brown yarn for ear details
- Removable scrap of yarn for marking the first stitch
Instructions
- Make a magic ring and work 6 single crochet stitches (sc) into the ring. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch.
- Round 1: 6 sc.
- Round 2: Work 2 single crochet into every stitch around (12 sc).
- Round 3: Repeat 1 single crochet in the next stitch and 2 single crochet in the following stitch around (18 sc).
- Round 4: Repeat 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch around (24 sc).
- Round 5: Repeat 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch around (30 sc).
- Round 6: Repeat 1 single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch around (36 sc).
- Rounds 7-12: Work 36 single crochet.
- Round 13: Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches, then decrease around (30 sc).
- Round 14: Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then decrease around (24 sc). Add polyester fiberfill.
- Round 15: Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then decrease around (18 sc).
- Rounds 16-17: Work 18 single crochet.
- Round 18: Work 1 single crochet in the next stitch, then decrease around (12 sc). Add last small amount of stuffing.
- Round 19: Work 6 decreases around (6 sc). Cut the yarn, leaving a 10-inch tail, and weave through the front loops of the remaining stitches to close.
- Make the muzzle: make a magic ring and work 6 single crochet into the ring. Rounds 1-4: Work as specified and add a small amount of stuffing. Sew to the front of the body.
- Make two ears: chain 8, work 1 single crochet in the second chain from the hook and across. Work 7 single crochet across for 4 rows, then decrease for 5 stitches. Fasten off.
- Sew the ears to the top of the body with the dark side facing outward. Sew on safety eyes or embroider the eyes.
- Check expression and secure any threads. Shape the body and check finished measurement.
Notes
Keep safety eyes and loose parts away from children under three. If gifting to a child under three, embroider the face instead of using safety eyes.
