Ingredients
- Yellow worsted weight acrylic yarn, about 170 yards per 100 g skein, 200 yards total
- Black worsted weight acrylic yarn, about 170 yards per 100 g skein, 140 yards total
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in the ends
- Scissors
- Tape measure
- Two optional stitch markers
Instructions
- Measure your dog from the base of the neck to the top of the tail, then around the fullest part of the chest.
- With yellow yarn, make a foundation chain of 29 chains.
- Skip 2 chains from the hook and work 27 half double crochet stitches across.
- Chain 2 and turn to begin the next row.
- Continue working half double crochet for 5 rows total.
- On the last pull-through of the fifth yellow row, switch to black yarn.
- Work 3 black rows, then alternate 5 yellow rows and 3 black rows until reaching the desired length.
- To create the leg openings, fold the rectangle and use black yarn to slip stitch the lower 6 inches of the side seam, leaving the upper 4 inches open.
- Turn the sweater right side out, join yellow yarn at the neck edge, and work one single crochet around the opening.
- Weave in the ends with a yarn needle and trim once secure.
- Block if needed to reshape edges.
