Description
This project gives you a pleasing rhythm almost immediately and makes a sweet little bandana for your dog. It uses sturdy cotton and an easy adjustable tie, allowing for a comfortable fit around a dog’s neck without buttons or stiff fasteners.
Ingredients
- About 85 yards of cotton worsted weight yarn, weight 4 medium (50 g)
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook (or I-9 (5.5 mm) for foundation chain)
- Yarn needle for weaving in the ends
- Small scissors
- Tape measure
- One stitch marker (optional)
Instructions
- Chain 21 to create a foundation chain.
- Row 1: Half double crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across.
- Row 2: Chain 1 for the turning chain, then turn. Work 2 hdc in the first stitch, hdc in each stitch across to the last stitch, and 2 hdc in the last stitch.
- Rows 3 through 10: Chain 1 and turn. Work 2 hdc in the first stitch, hdc in each stitch across to the last stitch, and 2 hdc in the last stitch.
- Row 11: Chain 1 and turn. Work 2 hdc in the first stitch, hdc in each stitch across to the last stitch, and 2 hdc in the last stitch.
- Begin the first tie: Chain 31, then slip stitch in the second chain from the hook and in each remaining chain back toward the bandana.
- Make the second tie: Chain 31, then slip stitch in the second chain from the hook and in each remaining chain back toward the bandana. Fasten off after joining the tie to the opposite corner with a final slip stitch.
- Weave in the ends with a yarn needle and dampen the bandana to shape it, allowing it to dry flat.
Notes
This bandana works best as a supervised accessory for walks and is not a replacement for a collar. Regularly check it for loose threads and stretching.
