A fun and simple craft project that combines artistry with science by creating beautiful eggshell geodes using Epsom salts.
Ingredients
- Empty eggshells (halved)
- Epsom salts
- Hot water
- Food coloring or liquid watercolors
- Small bowls or containers
- Spoon or stir stick
- Paper towels
- Baking sheet (for drying)
Instructions
- Clean the eggshells by rinsing thoroughly and patting dry with a paper towel.
- Set up your work area with newspapers or protective covering.
- In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup of Epsom salts with 1/3 cup of hot water and stir until fully dissolved.
- Add your desired food coloring, using multiple colors for effects.
- Carefully pour the colored solution into each eggshell half, filling about halfway.
- Gently swirl a toothpick or spoon in the mixture to create patterns.
- Place the filled eggshells on a baking sheet to catch spills.
- Allow the eggshells to sit for 24-48 hours in a warm location for crystal formation.
- Drain any excess liquid and let the eggshells air dry on the baking sheet for at least an hour before displaying.
Notes
Experiment with colors and solutions like sugar or baking soda. Add glitter for extra sparkle!
