Description

Crochet a small striped pouch that is easy to make and soothing to work on. This pouch is perfect for holding small essentials and can be completed in just a few evenings.

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), cotton or acrylic, about 220 total yards (201 m), or about 2 skeins of 110 yards each, approximately 50 g per skein
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Sharp scissors
  • Tape measure
  • 2 stitch markers (optional)
  • One small button (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make a foundation chain of 21 chain stitches.
  2. Row 1: Work 1 double crochet (dc) in the fourth chain from your hook. Continue with 1 dc in each chain across. You will have 18 double crochet stitches.
  3. At the end of Row 1, chain 3 for the turning chain and turn your work.
  4. Row 2: Work 1 dc in the first stitch and in every stitch across. Count 18 double crochet stitches, then chain 3 and turn.
  5. Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Row 2 for two more rows, keeping 18 double crochet stitches in every row.
  6. For color change, use your main color for Rows 1 and 2, then change to your contrast color at the end of Row 2.
  7. Rows 5 through 8: Work 4 rows in the contrast color, repeating the same pattern of 18 double crochet stitches, chain 3, and turn.
  8. Rows 9 through 12: Change back to your main color and repeat the same pattern for 4 rows.
  9. Rows 13 through 16: Change to the contrast color and work 4 more rows.
  10. Fasten off both colors, leaving tails about 6 inches long. Weave in the ends using the yarn needle.
  11. Fold the rectangle so the bottom edge meets the top edge, with the wrong side facing out. Use optional stitch markers to hold the side edges together.
  12. Sew both side seams with a length of matching yarn.
  13. Turn the pouch right side out and gently shape the corners with your fingers.
  14. If desired, sew one small button near the center of the front flap and make a short chain loop with yarn to attach it opposite the button.

Notes

This project offers a manageable size and soothing repetition, making it ideal for beginners and experienced crocheters alike.
