Description
A small crochet project to create a charming ghost decoration perfect for seasonal decorating.
Ingredients
- About 170 yards of worsted weight, weight 4, medium, 100% acrylic yarn in white (2 skeins of about 170 yards per 100 g skein)
- A small amount of worsted weight, weight 4, medium, black yarn for the eyes and mouth (about 10 yards)
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle with a blunt tip for weaving in the ends
- Sharp scissors for trimming yarn tails
- Stitch marker, optional
- Tape measure for checking gauge and the finished size
- Polyester fiberfill for a lightly stuffed shape (about 2 ounces)
- One small handful of white scrap yarn for temporary stitch holding, optional
Instructions
- With white yarn, make a slip knot and chain 22.
- Turn your chain and work 1 double crochet into the fourth chain from the hook, then place 1 double crochet in each remaining chain.
- For the next row, make 3 chains to act as the turning chain, turn the work, skip the first stitch, and place 1 double crochet in each stitch across.
- Continue making rows of 19 double crochet for 4 rows total, counting the first foundation row as Row 1.
- For Row 5, make 3 chains and turn. Work 2 double crochet into the first stitch, then 1 double crochet in each of the next 17 stitches, and 2 double crochet into the final stitch.
- For Row 6, make 3 chains and turn. Work 2 double crochet into the first stitch, 1 double crochet in each of the next 19 stitches, and 2 double crochet into the final stitch.
- Repeat the same increase pattern for Rows 7 through 12, beginning each row with 3 chains, working 2 double crochet into the first stitch, and placing 1 double crochet in every stitch across until the final stitch.
- For Row 13, make 3 chains and turn, and work 1 double crochet in every stitch across.
- For Row 14, make 1 chain and turn. Work 1 single crochet into each stitch across.
- Make the scalloped bottom edge by chaining 1, turning, and working 1 single crochet in the first stitch, skipping the next stitch, and working 5 double crochet into the following stitch, repeating this sequence across the row.
- Fold the piece gently and check the shape before stuffing it. Join the side edges with slip stitches or sew them with the yarn needle.
- Add a small amount of polyester fiberfill through the open top and shape it gently.
- Close the top with a yarn needle and white yarn, making small stitches from front to back.
- Add the face using black yarn to stitch two small pearl-shaped eyes and a short curved mouth.
- Weave in every remaining end with the yarn needle.
Notes
Keep away from open flames and heat sources as acrylic yarn can melt. Ensure the face is securely embroidered if giving to a child.
