Description

A small crochet project that creates a cute amigurumi-style decoration in the shape of a ghost using simple rounds and a soft, rounded body.

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight yarn, weight 4 medium, in white or cream, about 120 yards total
  • A small amount of black worsted weight yarn for the face, or two 8 mm safety eyes
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill, about 1 ounce (28 g)
  • Yarn needle with a blunt tip
  • Small scissors
  • One stitch marker (optional)
  • Tape measure (optional)
  • One small scrap of cardboard or a piece of paper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make a magic ring and work 6 single crochet into the ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the center.
  2. Round 2: work 2 single crochet in each stitch around (12 stitches).
  3. Round 3: repeat '1 single crochet in the next stitch, increase in the next stitch' around (18 stitches).
  4. Round 4: repeat '1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, increase in the next stitch' around (24 stitches).
  5. Rounds 5 through 10: work 1 single crochet in each stitch around for 6 rounds (24 stitches each).
  6. Rounds 11 and 12: continue with 1 single crochet in each stitch around for 2 rounds (24 stitches each).
  7. Round 13: repeat '1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then single crochet the next 2 stitches together' around (18 stitches).
  8. Round 14: repeat '1 single crochet in the next stitch, then single crochet the next 2 stitches together' around (12 stitches).
  9. Stuff the ghost through the opening with polyester fiberfill.
  10. Round 15: work 6 single crochet two together around (6 stitches).
  11. Cut the yarn, leaving a 10 inch tail. Weave the needle through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches and pull to close the opening.
  12. Secure the tail with a small knot inside the body and weave in the ends.
  13. Add the face by placing two 8 mm safety eyes or embroidering with black yarn.

Notes

For gifting, tuck one ghost into a mug filled with tea bags, a candle, or cocoa. Secure all yarn ends carefully for safety.
