Description
Create stunning DIY crystal geodes using simple materials. A fun and educational project suitable for all ages!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of Epsom salt
- 1 cup of hot water
- Food coloring (various colors)
- A bowl for mixing
- Plastic or paper cups (for shaping the geodes)
- Baking sheet or tray
- Parchment paper (optional)
Instructions
- Start by boiling water in a kettle or on the stove.
- In a bowl, mix 1 cup of Epsom salt with 1 cup of hot water. Stir the mixture until the salt is completely dissolved.
- Once dissolved, divide the solution into separate cups based on how many colors you would like to create. Add a few drops of food coloring to each cup and stir until you reach your desired hue.
- Use your plastic or paper cups to create the shapes of the geodes. You can line them with parchment paper for easier removal later. Pour the colored Epsom salt solution into the cups, filling them halfway.
- Place the cups on a baking sheet or tray to avoid spills. Leave the cups undisturbed in a cool, dry area for 24 to 48 hours. Watch as the crystals begin to form on the sides and bottom of the cups!
- Carefully remove the geodes from the cups and allow them to dry completely. The geodes can be gently pried from the cups if lined with parchment paper.
Notes
Customize colors, shapes, and add sparkle for unique variations. Use indoors as outdoor moisture can damage crystals.
