Description
A calming and creative project to make beautiful bioplastic suncatchers that catch the sunlight and add color to your space.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of corn starch
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of corn oil
- Food coloring (optional)
- Molds (like cookie cutters or silicone molds; optional)
- Baking sheet (for drying)
- Parchment paper or wax paper
- Scissors
Instructions
- Prepare your work area. Lay out your materials on a clean, flat surface. Cover it with parchment paper to make cleanup easier.
- Mix the ingredients. In a medium saucepan, combine the corn starch, water, vinegar, and corn oil. Use a whisk to blend the mixture gently until it becomes smooth.
- Heat the mixture. Place the saucepan over low heat. Stir continuously as the mixture begins to thicken.
- Add color. Once thickened, add a few drops of food coloring and stir well.
- Pour into molds. Remove from heat and carefully pour the mixture into the molds.
- Allow to cool. Let sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Remove and dry. Pull the suncatchers from the molds and place them to dry on a baking sheet.
- Finalize the edges. Use scissors to trim any rough edges if needed.
- Enjoy your finished pieces. Hang them by a window and watch them illuminate your space with colorful reflections.
