Description
Create a charming ghost garland using simple crochet techniques. This project is soothing to make and perfect for adding a seasonal touch to your home décor.
Ingredients
- One skein of worsted weight (weight 4, medium) 100% cotton yarn, about 170 yards per 100 g skein
- A small amount of black worsted weight cotton yarn for the eyes and mouths or embroidery floss
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle with a blunt tip for sewing and weaving in ends
- Sharp scissors
- Three stitch markers (optional)
- Tape measure
Instructions
- Make a magic ring, chain 2, then work 8 half double crochet into the ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the center and join with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet.
- Chain 2. Work 2 half double crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet.
- Chain 2. Work 1 half double crochet in the first stitch, then 2 half double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat around. Join with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet.
- Chain 2. Work 1 half double crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch.
- Chain 2. Work 1 half double crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch.
- Chain 2. In the next stitch, work 1 half double crochet, 1 double crochet, and 1 half double crochet together as one shell. Skip the next stitch, then repeat the shell in the following stitch and skip one stitch around. You will make 12 shells.
- Join with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet of the first shell. Fasten off, leaving an 8-inch tail for sewing or weaving in.
- Thread the black yarn onto the yarn needle. Stitch two small eyes and a mouth on the ghost's face.
- Repeat Steps 1 through 8 to make two more ghosts.
- Join the main cotton yarn to the top edge of the first ghost, chain 18, then slip stitch across the top of the ghost. Repeat with the second and third ghosts and chain 18 more before fastening off.
- Weave in all ends on the wrong side. Trim the tails once secure.
Notes
The ghosts do not need to match perfectly, and some differences add charm. Ensure the face is embroidered to avoid safety risks for small children.
