Description
This cute crochet pumpkin serves as a soothing seasonal accent, perfect for fall decorations. The project involves creating a simple rectangle that is shaped and stuffed to resemble a plump pumpkin.
Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), about 180 yards total, or 1 skein of about 170 yards plus a small amount from a second skein
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle with a blunt tip
- Scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure
- Polyester fiberfill, about 2 to 3 ounces (55 to 85 g)
- A small amount of brown or green worsted weight yarn for the stem, about 10 yards
Instructions
- Make 21 chains, or 21 ch.
- Row 1: Work 1 half double crochet (hdc) in the third chain from your hook and in each chain across (19 hdc). Chain 2 and turn.
- Row 2: Work 1 hdc in each stitch across, placing the first hdc in the stitch directly below the turning chain (19 hdc).
- Repeat Row 2 until you have 27 rows total.
- Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail about 18 inches (46 cm) long for sewing. Thread it onto your yarn needle.
- Fold the rectangle so the short edges meet and the ridges run vertically. Sew the short edges together.
- Turn the tube so the seam sits inside. Thread another length of yarn through the stitches around one open end and pull gently to gather the end.
- Fill the pumpkin with polyester fiberfill in small handfuls.
- Gather the remaining open end with the same method and secure the yarn.
- Make the stem with brown or green yarn: Chain 8, then slip stitch (sl st) in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Fasten off, roll into a stem, and sew to the top.
- Shape the pumpkin gently.
Notes
Keep away from open flames and hot surfaces. Small parts can be a choking risk.
