Description

Create your own stunning crystal star with this delightful and easy craft, combining creativity and science.

Ingredients

  • Borax (1 cup)
  • Hot water (2 cups)
  • A clean glass jar (pint-sized)
  • Pipe cleaners (assorted colors)
  • A pencil or stick (for suspending the star)
  • String (optional for hanging)
  • Food coloring (optional for added color)

Instructions

  1. Shape Your Pipe Cleaners: Take several pipe cleaners and twist them together to form a star shape. Bend and mold them until you’re satisfied with the structure.
  2. Attach the String: If you want to hang your star, tie a piece of string to one point of the star, securing it well.
  3. Boil the Water: Heat up 2 cups of water until it’s boiling.
  4. Mix Borax: Carefully add 1 cup of Borax to the boiling water, stirring continuously until it completely dissolves.
  5. Add Color: If you want, add a few drops of food coloring into the solution.
  6. Suspend Your Star: Using a pencil or stick, suspend your star in the center of the glass jar.
  7. Pour In the Solution: Slowly pour the Borax solution into the jar until your star is fully submerged.
  8. Let It Sit: Place the jar in a safe, undisturbed location and leave it overnight.
  9. Remove and Rinse: After crystals have formed, carefully remove the star from the solution and rinse it gently with cool water.
  10. Dry and Display: Let your crystal star dry completely; it’s now ready to be displayed or gifted!

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations for unique looks or use Epsom salt instead of Borax for different crystal structures.
