Description
This crochet smartphone case is a small, calming project perfect for keeping your phone close without occupying your hands. It features a shoulder handle for easy carrying and is made using simple half double crochet stitches.
Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), about 220 yards total
- One H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle with a blunt tip
- Sharp scissors
- Tape measure
- Two stitch markers (optional)
Instructions
- Make a slip knot and place it on your H-8 (5.0 mm) hook. Work a foundation chain of 22 chain stitches.
- For Row 1, yarn over, insert the hook into the third chain from the hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over again and pull through all three loops for one half double crochet (hdc). Work 1 hdc in each remaining chain across, then chain 2 to turn. You will have 20 hdc.
- For Row 2, work 1 hdc in each stitch across, placing the hook under both loops at the top of each stitch. The chain 2 does not count as a stitch. Chain 2 to turn at the end of the row.
- Repeat Row 2 until you have 18 rows total. The rectangle should measure about 4 inches wide by 7 inches tall.
- Fasten off after Row 18, leaving a yarn tail about 18 inches long for sewing one side.
- Fold the rectangle in half so the first chain edge meets the last row. Use optional stitch markers to hold the side edges together.
- Sew one side seam from the bottom corner to the top edge with small whipstitches.
- Sew the second side in the same way. Turn the case right side out and slide your phone inside to check the fit.
- Make the handle by chaining 91 for a handle about 36 inches long. Work 1 slip stitch in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across.
- Attach one handle end to the inside of the case near a side seam. Repeat on the other side, checking that the handle lies flat and does not twist.
- Weave in every remaining end with the yarn needle.
