Ingredients
- About 45 yards of worsted weight yarn, weight 4, medium, in black and bone color
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Small amount of contrasting worsted weight yarn for details (optional)
- Polyester fiberfill, about 0.25 ounce (7 g) per keychain
- Yarn needle with a blunt tip
- Sharp scissors
- Stitch marker (optional)
- One sturdy metal key ring or lobster clasp per keychain
- Small scrap of black embroidery thread or black yarn for the face (optional)
Instructions
- Gather the yarn, hook, fiberfill, yarn needle, key ring, and stitch marker.
- Make a magic ring by wrapping the yarn around two fingers and working 6 sc into the ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the center, then join with a sl st.
- Chain 1 and work 2 sc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st.
- Increase by working 1 sc in the first stitch and 2 sc in the next, repeating around. Join with a sl st.
- Work 1 sc in each stitch around for two rounds.
- Start tapering with a decrease, combining two stitches into one. Repeat 1 sc, decrease around. Join with a sl st.
- Add a small amount of polyester fiberfill, then work a decrease in each pair of stitches around. Pull the opening closed with the yarn needle, fasten off, and leave a 10-inch tail.
- For each arm, chain 7, work 1 sl st in each chain across, and fasten off with a 6-inch tail. Make two arms and sew them to the upper body.
- For each leg, chain 9, work 1 sl st in each chain across, and fasten off with a 6-inch tail. Make two legs and sew them to the lower body.
- Use black embroidery thread or yarn to add facial details.
- Make a hanging loop by chaining 10 and joining the ends with a sl st. Sew it to the top of the skeleton.
- Weave in all ends and ensure the piece is shaped well.
