Description
This project is a soothing crochet pattern for a cozy phone cover that provides warmth and protection for your phone while being simple enough for relaxing evenings of crafting.
Ingredients
- About 90 yards of worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), cotton or acrylic, from one 170-yard, 100 g skein or less
- One H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in the ends
- Small scissors
- One stitch marker, optional (a scrap of yarn can be swapped in)
- Tape measure for checking the finished size and gauge
Instructions
- Make a foundation chain with 24 chains, keeping this chain relaxed.
- Round 1: Work 1 half double crochet (hdc) in the second chain from your hook, then in each of the next 22 chains. Work 3 hdc in the last chain. Turn your work and crochet along the underside of the chain, working 1 hdc in each of the next 22 unused chain loops, and 2 hdc in the same first chain where you made the first stitch. Join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first hdc. (Total: 50 hdc)
- Place a stitch marker in the first hdc of Round 2.
- Round 2: Make 1 hdc in the first stitch and in each of the next 22 stitches. Work 2 hdc in each of the next 3 stitches, then continue with 1 hdc in each of the next 22 stitches, and 2 hdc in each of the last 2 stitches. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (Total: 55 hdc)
- Round 3: Make 1 hdc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (Total: 55 hdc)
- Rounds 4 through 9: Repeat Round 3 six times, working 1 hdc in every stitch around and joining with a sl st at the end of each round. (Each round has 55 hdc)
- Check the fit after Round 6 by sliding the cover over the bottom of your phone. It should feel snug.
- Finish the final round with a sl st in the first hdc. Cut the yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail, and pull the tail through the last loop.
- Weave in the ends by passing the needle through several stitches on the inside, then trim the remaining tail.
Notes
The cover should measure about 4 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide. Adjust the foundation chain in multiples of 2 and add height through extra rounds for a different phone size. Avoid exposing acrylic to heat sources or it may melt.
