Description
Create a charming blue animal coin purse with simple crochet stitches and a soothing rhythm. This easy beginner-friendly project results in a small pouch perfect for holding coins and small treasures.
Ingredients
- About 65 yards of worsted weight (weight 4, medium) cotton yarn in blue
- A small amount of worsted weight (weight 4, medium) cotton yarn in cream or white for the muzzle, about 8 yards
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Sharp scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure
- Two 9 mm safety eyes
- A small pinch of polyester fiberfill for the muzzle, less than 1 gram
- One 5-inch zipper
- A sewing needle and thread that coordinates with the zipper
Instructions
- With blue yarn, chain 19. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and across for 18 sc.
- Chain 1 and turn. Work 1 sc in each stitch across (18 sc).
- Repeat the previous row until you have a total of 24 rows. Count at the end of every row to maintain 18 sc per row.
- Fasten off the first rectangle, leaving an 18-inch yarn tail. Make a second rectangle in blue, leaving another long tail.
- Place the two rectangles together with the wrong sides facing inward.
- Sew the two side edges and the lower edge together with small whipstitches, leaving the top edge open.
- Fold the upper half of the front rectangle down to form a flap, and sew the fold at both side edges if desired.
- For each ear, chain 6. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and across the next 3 chains. Work 3 sc in the last chain, then turn and work along the opposite side of the foundation chain (1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches). Fasten off and leave a tail. Make a second ear.
- For the cream muzzle, chain 7. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and across for 6 sc. Continue for 4 rows, chaining 1 and turning at each end. Fasten off and leave a sewing tail. Optionally, add polyester fiberfill behind it if needed.
- Arrange the ears near the top corners of the flap and sew in place. Sew the cream muzzle below the center of the flap and attach the safety eyes above it.
- Embroider a small triangular nose and a short mouth with blue or black yarn.
- Sew the zipper along the open top edge using matching thread. Pin first and sew slowly, ensuring the teeth remain straight.
- Weave in the ends and shape the purse flat to let it dry completely before use.
