Description

Craft delightful birdseed ornaments to attract local birds and enjoy a creative family activity.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup birdseed mix
  • 1/4 cup unflavored gelatin
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • Cookie cutters (various shapes)
  • String or twine
  • Wax paper or parchment paper
  • A mixing bowl
  • A stirring utensil

Instructions

  1. Prepare your work area by laying out wax paper or parchment paper to catch any spills and gathering all materials.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine birdseed mix and unflavored gelatin. Add water and corn syrup, mixing until thoroughly combined.
  3. Pack the seed mixture firmly into cookie cutter shapes, pressing it down well to ensure it holds together.
  4. Make a small hole at the top of each shape with a straw or your finger and insert a piece of string or twine for hanging.
  5. Place the ornaments on wax paper and let them dry for 24 hours at room temperature or in a low-temperature oven for quicker drying.
  6. Once dry, hang your birdseed ornaments outside on trees or feeders and enjoy watching the birds come to visit.

Notes

Use seasonal cookie cutters for customization. Try adding dried fruits or edible flowers for added color and nutrients.
