Description

A cozy crochet project to create adorable dog clothes, perfect for enjoying quiet crafting moments.

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight (weight 4, medium) yarn: about 340 yards (310 m), typically 2 skeins of 170 yards (150 m) each
  • Hook: I-9 (5.5 mm)
  • Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker (optional, helpful for marking rounds)
  • Tape measure

Instructions

  1. Start with a magic ring (or magic circle). Chain 2 (ch 2) to form the foundation.
  2. Round 1: Work 12 single crochet (sc) into the magic ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the ring tightly. You should have 12 sc at the end of this round.
  3. Round 2: *2 single crochet in the next stitch* (this is your increase), repeat around. You’ll now have 24 sc.
  4. Round 3: *1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the following stitch*, repeat around. You will have 36 sc.
  5. Round 4: *1 sc in the next two stitches, 2 sc in the next*, repeat around. You’ll have 48 sc at the end of this round.
  6. Rounds 5-10: Work single crochet evenly in each stitch (no increases). This solid base will provide stability. Count your stitches as you go: each round should remain at 48 sc.
  7. Round 11: Begin the double crochet (dc) pattern to add texture. *2 dc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next 3 stitches*, repeat around. You'll have 60 dc at the end of this round.
  8. Round 12: Alternating rounds, continue the pattern, adding in 2 extra stitches every other round for added width. Count closely!
  9. After reaching the desired length, work in slip stitches (sl st) around for a finished edge, as this will give the project a polished look and help prevent curling.
  10. To finish the project, weave in your ends using a yarn needle.
  11. If using wool, consider blocking the piece to even out stitches and enhance drape. Block carefully with steam from a distance; never let your iron touch the fiber directly!

Notes

Feel free to make this project your own by experimenting with different yarns or colors.
