Description

A simple and fun recipe to make your own kinetic sand without cornstarch, perfect for sensory play.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fine sand (play sand or craft sand)
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Optional: food coloring or liquid watercolors
  • Optional: glitter or essential oils for added fun

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup of fine sand and 1/2 cup of flour. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. If you desire colored sand, add a few drops of food coloring or liquid watercolors to this mixture.
  3. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients while mixing with your hands or a spoon. Continue mixing until all the ingredients are well-blended.
  4. If the sand feels too dry, add a few extra drops of water. If it’s too wet, sprinkle in a little more flour or sand.
  5. When the sand reaches a satisfying, moldable consistency, it’s ready for creative play!

Notes

Store the kinetic sand in an airtight container for longevity. If it dries out, add a few drops of water and knead it back to the desired consistency.
