Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly.
- Insert wooden sticks or skewers into the stem end of each apple.
- In a medium saucepan, mix the sugar, corn syrup, and water.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Use a candy thermometer to monitor the mixture, bringing it to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard-crack stage).
- Remove from heat, then carefully add food coloring and stir until evenly distributed.
- Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, swirling to coat evenly, and let excess drip off.
- Place the coated apples on parchment paper or a silicone mat to set.
- While the coating is still sticky, sprinkle your choice of toppings.
