Description
Create stunning crystal growing trees as a fun and educational winter craft. This hands-on science project helps you learn about crystallization while producing beautiful decorations.
Ingredients
- Borax (1/2 cup)
- Boiling water (2 cups)
- Pipe cleaners (green and brown)
- A jar or a glass container
- String (for hanging)
- A wooden stirrer or spoon
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Shape the green pipe cleaners into tree-like forms and use brown pipe cleaners to create branches or a trunk. Ensure the tree fits well into your jar.
- Boil 2 cups of water. In a jar, carefully add the 1/2 cup of Borax to the boiling water and stir until fully dissolved.
- If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to your solution.
- Tie a string to the top of your tree and suspend it in the jar, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom. Pour the Borax solution into the jar until the tree is submerged.
- Leave the jar in a safe location where it won’t be disturbed and check back in a few hours to see the crystals beginning to form.
Notes
