Ingredients

  • Wooden skewers or string
  • Glass jars (wide-mouth preferred)
  • Saucepan
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Baking sheet (for drying)

Instructions

  1. Combine 2 cups of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water in a saucepan.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat once dissolved.
  4. Add your chosen food coloring to the hot sugar solution while stirring gently.
  5. Pour the colorful sugar solution into glass jars, leaving some space at the top.
  6. Allow the solution to cool slightly.
  7. Dip wooden skewers or strings into the sugar solution, ensuring they are well-coated.
  8. Place them upright in the jars using a clothespin or a holder to keep them centered.
  9. Set the jars in a cool, undisturbed area.
  10. Observe crystal formations starting to appear along the skewers over the next few days.
  11. Carefully remove the skewers or strings when the crystals are ready and rinse them with cold water.
  12. Let them dry on a baking sheet.
