Description

A captivating DIY project demonstrating capillary action and color mixing, perfect for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 clear glasses or jars
  • Water
  • Food coloring (red, blue, yellow, and any other colors you want)
  • Paper towels
  • A tray or surface to contain spills

Instructions

  1. Line up the 6 glasses in a row. Fill the first, third, and fifth glasses with water until they’re about three-quarters full.
  2. Add a few drops of red food coloring to the first glass. In the third glass, add blue food coloring. In the fifth glass, add yellow food coloring. Leave the second, fourth, and sixth glasses empty.
  3. Fold a paper towel into a strip and place one end in the red glass and the other end in the empty second glass. Repeat with another folded paper towel strip, placing one end in the blue glass leading to the empty fourth glass. Do the same with the yellow glass leading to the empty sixth glass.
  4. Sit back and observe as the water begins to “walk” along the paper towels into the empty glasses, creating a beautiful rainbow effect!

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations and container designs for unique visual effects. Consider adding edible glitter for a sparkly twist!
