A fun and engaging science experiment that mimics a volcanic eruption using simple household ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • A container (like a plastic bottle or small cup)
  • Tray or baking sheet (to catch spills)
  • Water (optional, to adjust consistency)

Instructions

  1. Set up your space: Find a flat surface and place a tray or baking sheet underneath.
  2. Build your volcano: Place your container in the center of the tray and shape playdough or sand around it for realism.
  3. Add the dry ingredients: Pour 1 cup of baking soda into the container.
  4. Add dish soap: Pour in 1 tablespoon of dish soap.
  5. Optional color: Add food coloring for a vibrant eruption.
  6. Prepare the vinegar: Measure out 1 cup of vinegar in a separate cup.
  7. Pour and watch: Quickly pour the vinegar into the container and step back to enjoy the eruption.

Notes

Use different food colorings for varied lava colors. You can enhance the effect with glitter or confetti.
