Description

Create beautiful salt dough leaves with this easy and fun recipe, perfect for all ages.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Leaf templates or real leaves for pressing
  • Paints (acrylic or water-based)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Optional: varnish for sealing

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 cup of salt.
  2. Gradually add 1 cup of warm water while stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Using a rolling pin, flatten the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  5. Place leaf templates or real leaves onto the dough and gently press down to create an impression.
  6. Carefully cut around the leaf shape using a knife or cookie cutter.
  7. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Transfer the dough leaves onto the baking sheet, spacing them out.
  9. Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and bake for 2-3 hours or until hard and dry.
  10. Allow leaves to cool completely once out of the oven.
  11. Use your choice of paints to decorate the leaves.
  12. Optional: Add a coat of varnish for added durability.

Notes

Customize colors and textures to make each leaf unique. Add essential oils for a scented dough.
