Description
A delightful and versatile craft activity that allows for creative expression while making vibrant leaves from salt dough, perfect as decorations or gifts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- Food coloring (optional)
- Rolling pin
- Leaf-shaped cookie cutters or templates
- Baking sheet
- Paint (acrylic or tempera)
- Paintbrush
- Sealer (optional, for durability)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt. Gradually pour in 1 cup of water, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and pliable.
- If you want vibrant colors, divide the dough into portions. Add a few drops of food coloring to each portion and knead until evenly colored.
- Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick using a rolling pin. Use cookie cutters or templates to cut out leaf shapes. For texture, press real leaves onto the dough to create veins.
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Place the cut leaves on a baking sheet and bake for 1-2 hours, until hard. Allow them to cool completely after baking.
- Once cooled, use a paintbrush to add colors or details to your leaves. For added protection and shine, apply a sealer after the paint dries.
Notes
Feel free to experiment with various plant shapes and natural dyes for unique creations. Incorporating string can turn the leaves into hanging decorations.
