Description
Create beautiful crystal hearts using simple materials, combining crafting with a fun science experiment.
Ingredients
- Pipe cleaners (any color of your choice)
- Boiling water
- Sugar or borax (for crystals)
- Glass jar (a wide-mouth jar works best)
- String or fishing line (for hanging purposes)
- Wooden stick or pencil (to hang the heart)
- Scissors
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Shape the Pipe Cleaner: Bend the pipe cleaner into a heart shape, pinch the top and twist the two ends together to secure the heart shape.
- Prepare the Crystal Solution: Boil water and carefully pour it into a glass jar, add sugar or borax gradually, stirring until it dissolves completely. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring.
- Suspend the Heart: Tie a piece of string or fishing line to the top of the heart shape and attach the other end to a wooden stick or pencil, resting it across the top of the jar.
- Allow Crystallization: Place the setup in a location where it won’t be disturbed and leave it undisturbed for several hours or overnight.
- Remove and Rinse: Once the crystals have formed to your satisfaction, gently remove the heart and rinse it under cool water, then dry it carefully.
Notes
For best results, leave the crystals to form overnight. You can customize your heart with different colors and shapes.
