Description
Learn how to turn a simple pipe cleaner into a beautiful crystal heart using borax and water.
Ingredients
- Pipe cleaner (1 or more, your choice of color)
- Borax (1/2 cup)
- Water (2 cups)
- Glass jar (wide mouth)
- String or fishing line (optional, for hanging)
- Scissors
- Hammer (for breaking borax, if needed)
- Food coloring (optional, for tinting crystals)
Instructions
- Boil 2 cups of water in a pot.
- Remove from heat and add 1/2 cup of borax to the hot water.
- Stir the mixture until the borax is completely dissolved.
- Mix in a few drops of food coloring for a vibrant look (optional).
- Take your pipe cleaner and bend it into a heart shape.
- Twist the ends together to secure the shape, ensuring it’s sturdy.
- Use string or fishing line to tie the heart shape and suspend it inside the glass jar.
- Make sure it does not touch the bottom or sides of the jar.
- Carefully pour your borax solution into the jar until the heart is fully submerged.
- Allow the jar to sit undisturbed in a cool area for several hours or overnight.
- Observe as crystals begin to form on the heart as the solution cools.
- Once the desired crystal formation is achieved, carefully remove the heart from the jar and let it dry on a paper towel.
