Description
Revitalize your old cotton t-shirt through vibrant tie-dyeing techniques, creating unique and personalized clothing.
Ingredients
- 100% cotton t-shirt (preferably white or light-colored)
- Fabric dye (various colors)
- Eye droppers or squeeze bottles for applying dye
- Rubber bands or string
- Plastic gloves
- Plastic table cover or old newspaper
- Bucket or large bowl (for dye)
- Water
Instructions
- Prepare Your Workspace: Lay down the plastic table cover or old newspaper to protect your surfaces. Gather all your materials within reach.
- Wet the T-Shirt: Dampen the t-shirt with water—this helps the dye spread better. Squeeze out excess water so it’s damp but not dripping.
- Choose a Folding Technique: Spiral, Crinkle, or Stripes. Secure your chosen folding technique with rubber bands.
- Apply Dye: Put on your plastic gloves. Using the eye droppers or squeeze bottles, apply dye to different sections. Flip the shirt and dye the backside for added depth.
- Set the Dye: Place the dyed shirt in a plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap. Let it sit for at least 6-8 hours or overnight for richer colors.
- Rinse and Dry: Rinse the shirt under cold water until water runs clear. Wash it separately in cold water with a mild detergent. Hang to dry away from direct sunlight.
Notes
Try using fabric paints or natural dyes to create unique patterns. After the first wash, always wash separately to prevent bleeding.
