Description

Create enchanting and customizable tissue paper jar lanterns using recycled materials for a warm ambiance at home.

Ingredients

  • Clean glass jars (mason jars, old sauce jars, etc.)
  • Tissue paper (various colors)
  • Mod Podge or white school glue
  • Foam brush or paintbrush
  • LED tea lights or candles (if using real candles, ensure jars are heatproof)
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Decorative elements (glitter, washi tape, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Choose a clean, flat surface and protect it with newspaper or a plastic sheet.
  2. Cut Tissue Paper: Cut tissue paper into squares or strips, or create abstract shapes.
  3. Apply Glue: Pour Mod Podge or glue into a bowl and apply a thin layer to the jar using a foam brush.
  4. Attach Tissue Paper: Place the tissue paper on the glued areas, overlapping pieces and pressing down to remove air bubbles.
  5. Seal the Lantern: Cover the entire jar with another layer of glue and allow it to dry completely, usually taking a few hours.
  6. Add Lighting: Place an LED tea light or candle inside the jar, ensuring it’s stable and secure.

Notes

Customize shapes, swap materials, or incorporate glitter for added sparkle. Supervise children closely when crafting.
