Description

A delightful twist on the classic candied apple with a vibrant ocean-themed presentation, perfect for fall festivities and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or your favorite variety)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp flavor extract (vanilla, almond, or coconut)
  • Food coloring (blue, green, or any ocean-themed colors)
  • Lollipop sticks or wooden skewers
  • Decorative edible glitter or sprinkles (optional)
  • Baking sheet lined with parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Wash and Dry: Rinse apples under cool water and dry them thoroughly with a clean towel.
  2. Insert Sticks: Push lollipop sticks or wooden skewers into the stem end of each apple, about halfway in.
  3. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, mix sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  4. Heat: Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Boil: Increase heat and allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches the hard crack stage (300°F or 150°C), about 10-15 minutes. Use a candy thermometer for accuracy.
  6. Add Flavor and Color: Once the syrup reaches the correct temperature, remove it from heat. Stir in your chosen flavor extract and add food coloring until the desired hue is achieved.
  7. Dip the Apples: Hold each apple by the stick and dip into the candy coating. Rotate to ensure an even coverage.
  8. Set on Baking Sheet: Place the coated apples upright on the parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and harden.
  9. Decorate: Sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles on the apples while the coating is still sticky for an extra touch of fun.

Notes

For a unique twist, try different food coloring and toppings. Ensure apples are unwaxed for better coating adherence.
