Description
A fascinating and fun craft project that combines art and science to create beautiful sugar and glue geodes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon white glue (school glue)
- Food coloring (optional)
- A heat-resistant container (like a glass jar)
- A spoon or stick for stirring
- Wax paper or aluminum foil
- A warm window sill or heater
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in a heat-resistant container: mix 3 cups of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water.
- Heat the mixture on the stove until the sugar completely dissolves to create a super-saturated solution.
- Remove from heat, add 1 tablespoon of white glue, and stir well.
- If desired, add a few drops of food coloring and stir thoroughly to achieve your desired hue.
- Let the solution cool for a few minutes.
- Line a flat surface or tray with wax paper or aluminum foil.
- Pour the mixture into the heat-resistant jar, ensuring it’s at least 1 inch deep.
- Place the jar on a warm window sill or near a heater; crystals will begin to form over the next few days.
- Check daily. The longer you let it sit, the larger the crystals can grow.
- Once satisfied with the crystal growth (around 3-7 days), carefully remove your creations from the jar.
Notes
Experiment with different shapes and colors. Use glitter for an extra sparkle, and consider using Epsom salt or borax for different crystal types.
