Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Clean glass jars or cups
  • String or wooden skewers
  • Clothespins (if using string)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Flavoring (optional, such as vanilla or mint)

Instructions

  1. In a pot, combine 2 cups of sugar with 1 cup of water and heat on medium, stirring until dissolved.
  2. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring and a splash of flavoring.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Pour the cooled sugar solution into a clean jar, leaving space at the top.
  5. For string, tie one end to a pencil and suspend it in the jar; or insert a skewer directly into the jar.
  6. Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed location and wait 3-7 days for crystals to form.

Notes

Experiment with different flavors and colors. Store finished crystals in an airtight container.
