Description

Create beautiful sugar crystals that are delicious and visually appealing. Perfect for a fun project or unique gifts!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Flavored extracts (optional)
  • Clean glass jar or container
  • Wooden skewer or string
  • Paperclip (for suspending the skewer/string)
  • Saucepan
  • Heat source (stove)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, mix the sugar and water together in a 2:1 ratio (2 cups of sugar to 1 cup of water).
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar completely dissolves.
  3. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring and flavored extracts.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the solution cool for about 15-20 minutes.
  5. While the solution cools, attach a paperclip to the bottom of a wooden skewer (or string) to prevent it from touching the bottom of the jar. Place the skewer in the jar, so it is suspended.
  6. Carefully pour the cooled sugar solution into the jar, ensuring the skewer is submerged without touching the sides.
  7. Cover the jar with a breathable cloth and place it in a cool, undisturbed location.
  8. Check the jar daily for crystal growth, which will start forming in a few days, with full growth taking up to one week.
  9. Once the crystals reach the desired size, carefully remove the skewer and let the crystals dry on a paper towel for 10-15 minutes.

Notes

Experiment with different flavored extracts and colors for unique creations. Store sugar crystals in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
