Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Wooden skewers or cotton string
- Clean glass jars or containers
- Food coloring (optional)
- Clothespins or paper clips
Instructions
- Start by cleaning your glass jars thoroughly to ensure they’re free of dust or residue.
- In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water.
- Heat the mixture over medium until the sugar dissolves completely, stirring occasionally.
- If using, add a few drops of food coloring to the solution for vibrant crystals. Stir well.
- Pour the hot sugar solution into the prepared jars, filling them about 2/3 full.
- If using wooden skewers, dip them in the sugar solution then roll them in some sugar before placing them in the jars for better crystal growth.
- For strings, tie one end to a clothespin and hang it in the jar so it’s submerged in the solution without touching the bottom.
- Place the jars in a cool, undisturbed area.
- After about a week, remove the ornaments from the jars and let them dry on a paper towel.
