Description

A fun and educational recipe to create vibrant sugar crystals while learning about crystallization.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • 1 clean glass jar or container
  • A clean stick or skewer (optional)
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 spoon
  • Heat source (stove)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the 2 cups of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil and, if desired, add food coloring and stir to mix.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool for about 10 minutes. Pour syrup into the glass jar, leaving space at the top.
  4. Optionally, dip a clean stick or skewer into the syrup and place it in the jar.
  5. Cover loosely and store in a cool, dark place. Crystals will start forming in about 3-7 days.

Notes

Experiment with different types of sugar and flavors. Be patient as the crystals form over several days!
