A fun and educational recipe to create vibrant sugar crystals while learning about crystallization.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Food coloring (optional)
- 1 clean glass jar or container
- A clean stick or skewer (optional)
- 1 saucepan
- 1 spoon
- Heat source (stove)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the 2 cups of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and, if desired, add food coloring and stir to mix.
- Remove from heat and let cool for about 10 minutes. Pour syrup into the glass jar, leaving space at the top.
- Optionally, dip a clean stick or skewer into the syrup and place it in the jar.
- Cover loosely and store in a cool, dark place. Crystals will start forming in about 3-7 days.
Notes
Experiment with different types of sugar and flavors. Be patient as the crystals form over several days!
