Description

Delicious and festive Halloween sugar cookies decorated with vibrant colors and fun designs, perfect for any spooky celebration.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Assorted food coloring gels
  • Sprinkles, edible eyeballs, and other decorations

Instructions

  1. Cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl until fluffy and pale.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
  3. Sift the flour, baking soda, and baking powder together, and gradually mix into the wet ingredients.
  4. Do not overmix the batter.
  5. Optionally split the dough and tint with food coloring.
  6. Chill the dough for 30 minutes or freeze for 10 minutes.
  7. Roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut with Halloween cookie cutters.
  8. Place on lined baking sheets and bake at 350°F for 8-9 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool before decorating.

Notes

Chill the dough to prevent cookies from spreading too much during baking. Use gel food coloring for vibrant results.
